About this build.
This detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in San Anselmo, in Marin County, California, is a 468-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bathroom backyard home built by Burton Builders in 2024. Olive-green board-and-batten siding, black trim, and black divided-lite windows give it a sharp modern-farmhouse look, finished with a deep-eaved shed roofline, black gooseneck barn sconces, and a navy Craftsman entry door.
Inside, vaulted ceilings and skylights brighten an open plan over light oak floors. The kitchen anchors the space with blue-gray shaker cabinetry, a butcher-block island with seating for three under black orb pendants, matte-black fixtures, a white tile backsplash, and full stainless appliances, with in-unit laundry tucked into its own nook. Black-framed French doors open the dining area straight to the garden, and a ductless mini-split keeps the home efficient year-round.
