About this build.
This detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Oakland, in Alameda County, California, is a compact 330-square-foot studio with one bathroom, built by Burton Builders in 2023. Tucked onto a wooded lot beneath mature redwoods, the little home leans into its setting with teal-blue lap siding, a shed roof with exposed rafter tails, a nautical gooseneck barn light, and a natural-wood Craftsman front door.
Inside, a vaulted ceiling with an exposed beam and a skylight makes the studio feel open and bright, finished with soft sage-green walls and white-oak floors. An efficient kitchenette offers white shaker cabinetry, speckled quartz counters, an induction cooktop, and a compact refrigerator, while the bathroom stays crisp with a white subway-tile walk-in shower. A ductless mini-split provides quiet, efficient heating and cooling — a cozy, well-built retreat among the trees.
