Project Overview

About this build.

This detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Oakland, in Alameda County, California, is a freestanding 798-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bathroom home built by Burton Builders in 2021. Designed in a warm Craftsman style, it pairs greige stucco with natural wood details — a timber-post covered patio, a solid wood front door, and deep eaves with exposed rafter tails. French doors open the main living space to the backyard, blurring the line between inside and out.

Inside, vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams give the open living and kitchen area an airy, cabin-like warmth, set off by butter-cream walls, wood-trimmed windows, and light wood-look floors. The kitchen stays clean and bright with white shaker cabinetry, light solid-surface counters, and stainless appliances, while the bathroom features a frameless-glass walk-in shower wrapped in large-format gray stone-look tile. Two comfortable bedrooms and ceiling fans throughout round out a cozy, character-rich home.
