Project Overview

About this build.

This multifamily renovation in Berkeley, in Alameda County, California, is a full gut remodel of an eight-unit student apartment building in the Telegraph neighborhood, a few blocks from the UC Berkeley campus, rebuilt by Burton Builders in 2025. Every unit was taken down to the studs and reconfigured to house more students: two-bedroom, one-bath flats became three-bedroom homes, and four-bedroom units were rebuilt as six-bedroom, two-bath layouts — all delivered on a hard turnover deadline so the building was ready for students moving in.

The rebuilt interiors are tailored to co-living. Open living and dining areas run wide-plank oak floors under LED cove lighting, with walnut slat accent walls and wall-mounted TVs, and each bedroom door gets its own keypad lock. Kitchens pair white-oak flat-panel cabinetry with marble-veined quartz counters and backsplashes, under-cabinet lighting, and full stainless appliance suites, and every unit includes stacked in-unit laundry. New bathrooms finish with fluted wood-look tile showers behind black-framed sliding glass, quartz-topped oak vanities, and matte-black fixtures, and several bedrooms open through glass doors to small private balconies.
