Project Overview

About this build.

This infill project in Oakland, in Alameda County, California, added four new accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on the lower level of a 42-unit multifamily property, built by Burton Builders in 2025. Carved out of underused ground-floor space, each new studio is a complete self-contained home with its own street-level entry — infill work that adds rental units to an existing building without expanding its footprint.

Inside, the studios are bright and efficient: white walls, wide-plank oak floors, recessed lighting, and ductless mini-splits for year-round comfort. Kitchenettes run white shaker cabinetry with quartz counters, matte-black pull-down faucets, and full stainless appliance sets — refrigerator, range, and over-the-range microwave — while built-in open shelving adds pantry and closet storage alongside sliding-door closets. Each unit finishes with its own bathroom, where charcoal large-format tile wraps a glass-enclosed corner shower.
