This custom home addition and remodel in Oakland, in Alameda County, California, reworked and expanded a single-family home to roughly 2,500 square feet — five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two living rooms — completed by Burton Builders in 2024. It was a long journey, pairing an addition with a full interior remodel to reshape how the family lives, and the result makes the most of its setting, with wood-framed windows looking out over neighboring tile rooftops and treetops.
The heart of the home is a custom rift-white-oak kitchen: flat-panel cabinetry with routed finger pulls, a waterfall peninsula, and a suspended open-shelf unit floating above the counter, all topped in white quartz against a sage-green stacked-tile backsplash and warm brass fixtures. Light white-oak floors run throughout, an open-riser stair with oak treads links the levels, and a long built-in window bench turns a wall of casement windows into everyday seating. The bathrooms bring their own character — one wrapped in blush tile with slim brass inlay lines and matching gold shower fittings — rounding out a bright, warm, thoroughly custom home.
